 Kitchen Rebuild 1

  Before.

The kitchen in this country ranch was old and out of date.  A support wall was removed and a large beam installed in its place to make a more modern open space.  A larger window too.  New hardwood to match the rest of the house was installed, along with new walnut finish shaker cabinetry.  Solid surface countertops and a new island, along with all new appliances really brought everything up to date.  New potlights and pendants make this space open and inviting at night.

This simple galley kitchen was the previous owners idea of a facelift for selling the house.  The new owners wanted something much more modern.  New floors in jatoba were dark, but the new white cabinetry, although simple and inexpensive, really made the kitchen bright.  Formica counters and a big single apron sink made it into a great space for a cook.  The blue ceramic backsplash brought a tropical feel to the space.  New appliances were a part of the original plan too,

This kitchen from the late 50’s was entirely original an belonged in a museum—but not in a modern home.  A window was filled in, a window was made bigger, and a major structural modification was done to open up the entire kitchen but these changes made a big dent in the overall budget.  New hardwood, new porcelain tile, new appliances and new cabinetry from Ikea made this space a lot more livable, but at a reasonable price.  The new island and granite countertops throughout made for a chefs dream kitchen.

This was without a doubt the worst kitchen we had ever seen.  Everything was in bad shape and didn’t work for the new owners.  A few walls later, the stage was set for a much more livable space.  A larger window, new layout and new porcelain floors were a good start.  The new espresso cabinetry and granite counters were a good end.  And potlighting, new appliances and a gas range made the kitchen a bright new work horse for the family’s chef

This kitchen was so small it had to be seen to be believed.  The old peninsula just made the space unusable.  New solid maple cabinetry and glass doors weren’t enough for these folks though.  Top of the line stainless steel backsplash tiles, porcelain floor tiles, Blum hardware,  extra thick granite and a beautiful Houzer sink were complemented by Bosch and Kitchenaid appliances and gorgeous german made handles and pulls.  Every cabinet had every conceivable drawer insert, organizer, and gizmo you could get to make this kitchen a dream space.  Even the kickplates had drawers in them.

At the opposite end of the financial spectrum to the above, this kitchen just needed a facelift.  New off the shelf oak look thermofoil cabinetry, granite counters, inexpensive ceramic tiles and a paint job made for a brand new kitchen that didn’t break the bank.  These  folks spent a lot less money than most, but still got a great kitchen that they will love for years to come.

This century farmhouse had a lot of problems that needed fixing.   As part of the process of repairing the structure, the old kitchen had to go and wasn't worth saving.  But the new kitchen that replaced it is.  Classic clear birch hardwood and simple custom arts and craft cabinets worked beautifully with a modern solid surface counter and matching backsplash.  A large Jennair cooktop and wall oven were the main centers of attention, but the subdued and understated tones of the cabinet set  kept everything looking like it belonged in this period perfect home from before Canada was a country.

Its hard to believe but this picture is taken from the same spot.  This kitchen was adjacent to a formal dining room and a small office.  The customer wanted more light and space so we took down a few walls and tripled the size of the kitchen.  The office was lost, but they still kept the formal dining area.  Modern appliances, granite and maple cabinetry may seem to be the stars of the show, but the space is really what made it shine

 Kitchen Rebuild 9

After.

This kitchen was stuck in the 70’s so badly it was almost a museum piece.  Lucky for the owner, the seventies style was for large living and dining rooms.  We moved some walls around to make ample room for a new larger kitchen, added a bigger window and lifted the ceiling in the kitchen up into the atticspace above.  Then new porcelain tiles, oak cabinets and stainless steel appliances were all that was necessary to travel into the future.
